Kappa League

Kappa League is a subset of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc’s Guide Right Program, our National Service Initiative. This organization was initially founded under the chairmanship of Mel Davis, the Los Angeles Alumni Chapter’s Social Action Program and took the form of training activity for young men of the Alain Leroy Locke High School. Called the Kappa Instructional Leadership League, it was designed to help young men grow, receive, and develop their leadership talents in every phase of human endeavor. It provided both challenging and rewarding experiences, which richly enhanced their lives. Membership was open to male students from the tenth through the twelfth grades. The fraternity sought to help these young men to achieve worthy goals for themselves and make constructive contributions to their community when leadership roles become the responsibility.

    The Gastonia / Shelby (NC) Alumni Chapter, Founded in Gastonia in March of 1988, started it’s inaugural Kappa League class in September 2024 led by GSA Director of Guide Right Brother Reginald D. Smith.  The program was started with young men ranging from 9th – 11th grades and is based on the 7 Phases of Kappa League and the principle “If you see it, you can be it”.  The fundamental purpose of this program is to expose these young to varied experiences that will make them successful future leaders.  The local program discusses things such from financial literacy to the “Dos and Don’ts” when having an interaction with law enforcement.  College preparations is also part of the program which includes tours of local colleges and universities to expose our young men to the college experience.

     

    Every brother who advises the young men in this program are from our chapter and are certified by the fraternity as a Kappa League Mentor.  They have also passed a background check with the local school system. 

     

    The GSA Kappa League Chapter meets every third Saturday of the month at Friendship Christian Church in Gastonia, NC.
